The purchase
Prior to its purchase by Robert Sangster and Colin Hayes in 1995, the land housed a well-regarded cattle operation belonging to the Sleigh family.
The transformation
Since 1995 the property has been transformed into a beautiful and highly functional stud facility, encompassing purpose-built accommodation for stallions, mares, foals and yearlings. The fencing across the property was completely replaced and re-purposed following the purchase, rebuilt to the standard demanded of a commercial thoroughbred operation.
Swettenham today
Today, Swettenham Stud stands among the leading farms of the Victorian and Australian thoroughbred industry, the nursery of Group 1 winners including Mariamia, Victor the Winner and Trust In A Gust.
