It was great to see owners, breeders and crowds back on track for the Flemington Carnival last week and fantastic to see such strong results for the Victorian Stallions.

Puissance de Lune added another stakes winner to his list with SPIRIT OF GAYLARD, named in honour of Rob Gaylard, breaking through for his first Black Type win at just his fourth start. Trainer Mitch Freedman was understandably elated with the success and noted plenty more to come for the young colt.

Interestingly, of the 6 Black-Type races that were run and won on Stakes Day, 5 were won by Southern Hemisphere bred progeny and all were from November and December covers:
– WARNING Born 30th September from early November Cover
– AGE OF CHIVALRY born 22nd November from late December Cover
– NATURE STRIP Born 16th November from mid-late December Cover
– ZAYYDANI Born 25th October from early December Cover
– BEND THE KNEE Born 3rd October from early November cover

In fact, across all of the the stakeswinners at Flemington for the week, there were only TWO who were conceived on September covers!
